Northgate Mall, 미국 첫 교외 쇼핑몰

많은 사람들이 이용하는지 모르겠지만, 67번버스타고 올라가면 있는 노스게이트몰입니다.

이 노스게이트몰은 놀라운 역사적 사실이 있는데요. 1950년에 18개 상점과 함께 시작된 Northgate Mall은 미국 첫 교외(Suburban) 쇼핑몰입니다. 이것이 현재 미국의 쇼핑몰의 건물디자인의 시작이 됩니다.

이때 건축가가 적은 코멘트를 보면

“Covered sidewalks will protect shoppers from the weather and parking space for 3,500 automobiles is provided. A nursery is included, where mothers can leave their children."

지붕이 덮인 보도는 고객들을 날씨로부터 보호할것이고, 주차장은 3500여대정도 수용할 수 있다. 보호소가 있어서 아이들을 맡길 수 있다.

“No automobile traffic will be allowed within the center, to permit shoppers to move about freely from store to store."

중앙에는 차가 다니지않고, 고객들이 자유롭게 상점대 상점으로 이동 가능하다.
